Arsenal allowed to appeal Kieran Gibbs Red Card

Arsenal allowed to appeal Kieran Gibbs Red Card

The Football Association has confirmed that Arsenal can appeal Kieran Gibbs’ sending off on the grounds of “mistaken identity”.
Gibbs was dismissed in the first half of the 6-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for handball, despite the fact it was team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who dived to push an Eden Hazard shot past the post.
Referee Andre Marriner, with the apparent aid of his assistant official, made the call to show Gibbs the red card despite protests from Oxlade-Chamberlain and the Arsenal players.
The FA confirmed that there was provision for Arsenal to appeal.
“Clubs can appeal mistaken identity to The FA, although The FA can pro-actively review also,” an FA tweet read.
“Following a red card clubs can also review possibility of a wrongful dismissal claim to The FA, unless dismissal is for 2 yellow cards.”
There is a precedent for the decision to be changed after League 1 side Preston had the wrong man sent off against Port Vale in November.
Striker Joe Garner was suspended retrospectively for three games after midfielder Neil Kilkenny had mistakenly been sent off.
Gibbs’ mistaken red card would not have happened under UEFA’s extra-officials policy, according to a spokesman for president Michel Platini.
It is a situation that Pedro Pinto, the chief of press for Platini, said could have been avoided if there was an extra assistant on the by-line.
Pinto wrote on Twitter: “What confusion at Chelsea-Arsenal with the pen decision. That’s why over 30 European countries have endorsed UEFA-backed 5 officials system.
“With an additional assistant referee on the end line, referee would not have got that sending off wrong. Technology is not the answer…”
Pinto claimed that “more eyeballs” were the key to improving referee decision-making rather than technology alone.
The remier League has employed goal-line technology for the first time this season – which would not have aided Marriner’s decision at Chelsea because it determines whether a shot has crossed the line only.
Pinto added on Twitter: “More eyeballs are the answer. GLT helps with goal line decisions, but five officials system gives referee more angles of vision. It’s not one vs the other.”

BowenRiot: “Our VC Treats Us Like Prisoners” – Bowen University Students Riot & Vandalize School [PHOTOS]

#BowenRiot: “Our VC Treats Us Like Prisoners” – Bowen University Students Riot & Vandalize School [PHOTOS]
Students of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun state took matters into their hands as they protested the reign of current VC, Matthew Ojo.
The students, who had had enough of Ojo’s Nazi-like regime, started a riot at about 9pm on Wednesday night, destroying cars, street lights, shops, windows and even burnt part of some buildings.
According to a source at the University, Ojo had brought in rules that were not favorable to student life in the least.
The VC had reportedly denied the students basic amenities, giving them food and light only in restricted periods.
“You can’t eat except at stipulated hours,” the source said. “You fill statement forms if you’re caught eating. No break time in between classes to support the food timetable though. So if your class falls during the eating period, you’re not eating.”
He also infringed on their health rights, denying students access to healthcare after 6pm.
With all these, it’s easy to see why the students would have been forced to carry out their actions.

Twitter blocked in Turkey after users accuse government of corruption

TURKISH Twitter users found themselves blocked from the site after their Prime Minister threatened to ban it.
They are being redirected to a statement by the country’s telecommunications website.

It says there is a court order to apply “protection measures” to the site.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to "rip out the roots" of the social media network. Allegations of corruption within his inner circle emerged on Twitter.
But the country’s president, Abdullah Gul, has come out against Erdogan.
He said it is unacceptable to impose complete bans on social media platforms after a court decision to block access to Twitter.
The telecommunications authority issued a statement accusing Twitter of violating "personal rights and the confidentiality of private lives" and said access would be restored only when Twitter removes "illegal content."
Turkey in the past blocked access to YouTube, but it is the first ban on Twitter, which is hugely popular in the country.

Missing Malaysian plane was heading for US terror base in 9/11 style attack

THE missing Malaysian airliner was hijacked for a terror attack on British territory, it was claimed last night

Fears grew that the Boeing 777 flew towards a secretive US airbase leased from Britain on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Hijackers may have planned to slam the Malaysia Airlines jet with 239 passengers and crew into the base in a 9/11 style attack. The chilling new theory emerged after a satellite spotted pieces of wreckage, one 78ft long, floating 1,500 miles off the coast of Perth, Western Australia.

Australia’s Maritime Safety Authority boss John Young said surveillance planes were searching for the debris.
Last night an international fleet of boats, including British survey ship HMS Echo, was sailing there.
Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein hailed the wreckage discovery, which came 13 days after the plane disappeared, as “credible”.
The suspected crash site is in the opposite direction of the plane’s intended destination of Beijing, China, leaving investigators in little doubt that it deliberately veered off course.

Intelligence sources say the evidence is now pointing to it being hijacked perhaps by Islamic extremists. The possible crash site is around 2,000 miles off Diego Garcia, which is part of Britain’s Indian Ocean territory.
But any hijacker could have easily flown off course before running out of fuel.
Another theory is that passengers may have rebelled against the hijackers after realising their deadly final destination and altered the flight path.
Diego Garcia’s US airbase houses 1,400 workers and was used as a CIA “black site” to hold captured Islamic terror suspects.
The remote island is also said to have been used for “extraordinary rendition” flights, in which terrorist figures were transported around the world.
Internet conspiracy theorists backed claims that a hijacker may have been trying to fly there.
One wrote: “I have been saying look at Diego Garcia all along. I believe we might now be skating dangerously close to the truth to where the plane was going.”
And another hit back at sceptics, insisting: “What else is out there? The only target could be Diego.”
Last night there was also speculation the plane may have flown in a straight line directly south after some sort of catastrophe on board like a rapid decompression.
Robert Mark, editor of Aviation International News Safety magazine, said an on-board emergency may have knocked out the crew, leaving it to fly on auto-pilot until it ran out of fuel.
He said: “A mechanical fault or emergency seems plausible.”
